On the way to the North of the island (about 25 km from Zakynthos town), Makris Yialos has a wide sandy and pebble beach which is very good for snorkelling. Some small caves have been formed by the waves on the cliffs. In the past this beach was a secret haunt, but now thanks to the new coast road, it is very crowded in the high season. The beach can't be called organised, but there are some sunbeds and umbrellas. You can also find a tavern over the beach.
